Learn to Skate Programs

Pre-CanSkate
Pre-CanSkate is a ½ hour program for skaters 3- 5 years of age. This program teaches the basics of skating in a fun-filled, age-appropriate atmosphere, centered on games and activities.

CanSkate
CanSkate is a one hour learn-to-skate program for boys and girls. This is an ideal starting point for hockey players, ringette players and figure skaters. This program is taught in a group format, with an emphasis on teaching the fundamentals of skating: go forward, go backward, stop, turn, spin, and jump. There are 6 stages (badges) in the Canskate program.

Pre-Power & CanPowerSkate
The Pre-Power and CanPowerSkate programs teach the necessary skills for hockey and ringette players, including power, agility, balance, speed and endurance. CanPowerSkate is the only nationally regulated power skating program in Canada.
Usually skaters will advance into the Pre-Power and PowerSkate program once they have completed Canskate Stage 2, however, skaters who can demonstrate the ability to go forward, backward, and stop on command may be eligible.

Pre-Junior
Skaters who have achieved Canskate Stage 4 (or are over the age of 13) may wish to advance into our Pre-Junior program. Skaters will complete Stages 5 & 6 of the canskate program and learn aspects of the STARskate program, including dance, freeskate, and skills. This program is taught in a group format; however, skaters may wish to supplement this program with a one-on-one private lesson with a professional coach for an additional cost. Parents are encouraged to contact a professional coach directly if they wish to arrange additional lessons for their skater.

STARskate
STARskate offers skaters the opportunity to advance their figure skating skills in the areas of freeskate, dance, skills, and interpretive. Skaters in this program may choose to progress through levels Preliminary to Gold in the Skate Canada test stream and/or enter recreational or competitive competitions. In the STARskate program, skaters receive one-on-one lessons with a private coach and work independently when they are not receiving lessons. Parents are responsible for booking a coach and arranging private lessons. Lesson fees are paid in addition to registration fees.
